  • Charles Edward Hertan was born on March 10, 1960 in Morristown, New Jersey.
  • He was awarded the FIDE master title at age 21 in 1981.
  • Hertian won the 1995 Massachusetts Open and became state champion. Greater Boston Open co-champion in 1993.
  • Heis the author of at least six chess books.
  • He is by profession a numismatist (coin dealer).
  • He lives currently in Massachusetts and has lived most of his life here.
