“The Subtle Nuances of Pawn Structure

 

 

Jorge Sammour-Hasbun at age 22 is ranked 24th in the country (USCF 2587). He was 1996 Interplay US Junior Invitational Champion at the age of 17, outscoring local Eugene Perel-shteyn, IM Josh Waitzkin, Igor Shliperman, GM G. Schwartzman, FM Erez Klein, IM Tal Shaked and IM Dean Ippolito.

Jorge was born in Palestine, later moved to Honduras, and then to the U.S. He represented Amer-ica in the World Youth Champion-

 

 

ships in 1996.

He is also an excellent blitz player; at Foxwoods in 2000 he scored 9-1 to take first in the Blitz event, overcoming very strong opposition, including well-known blitz phenomenon Alek Wojtkie-wicz. In 1999 he won the World Open Game/10 cham-pionship.

Jorge has generously agreed to donate this lecture to the Club.
