| Welcome to the new Millennium,
and the 1st issue of MACA News (MN). MACA News brings you up-to-date every
month with local chess news. This is the perfect complement to Chess Horizons (CH), our award winning magazine. Chess Horizons brings you depth of coverage and interviews, while MACA News brings you quick summaries. Make sure to read both to stay on top of chess in Massachusetts! Important Notice#1 Next Board meeting is August 13, 1-4 p.m. in the Natick Senior Center. Contact us for directions. All Board meetings are open to MACA members. Important Notice#2 On June 28, Peter Sherwood resigned as Editor of Chess Horizons. His resignation letter is on file (click here). I want to publicly thank Peter for all that he has done to bring Chess Horizons up to the high quality that it is currently. On Tuesday July 18 we secured the interim services of Tom Zuppa for the Sep/Oct issue. We will discuss future issues of Chess Horizons at the August Board meeting. Tom Zuppa is a newspaper editor, formerly for the Metrowest News, and currently Asst. Editor for the Lowell Sun. He is also an old hand in the Mass chess scene. Important Notice#3 We have formed committees, and are looking for volunteers to help. We can't do it without you, but together we can do great things! We have a committee list below, click one of the side links to email us. The most critical committees are the Tournament and Scholastic committees. Important Notice#4 MACA is in the process of renegotiating the US Open 2001. Stay tuned for details! |

Club News |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Your club can be listed
here, and on the MACA web site!
If you run a club anywhere in New England, send us general club info (as listed in the MACA Club Directory), and we'll put your club in the directory. If your club has a web site, we'll put a link to it on the MACA home page. If your club does not have a web site, send us info (in the exact format as the Waltham Club), and we can put this info on the web with a link from the home page. Simple as that! Boylston (BCC) - Don't miss the "Legends of Chess" series this summer! Metrowest (MCC) - MCC is currently running a special novice/scholastic section in it's tournaments for the summer. Waltham (WCC) - Friday night quick play Billerica CC - Friday night slow play Put your club in the news! Email the MACA News Editor to find out how. |

MACA Volunteers |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| MACA operates totally from
volunteer effort!
MACA loves it's volunteers, and wants to thank them for helping. If you would like to join our ranks, please email the Volunteer Coordinator (email), and say that you want to help! You'll be hooked up with the right people!
Special thanks goes to the participants of the Scholastic Committee, who are working hard to hammer out the yearly schedule of scholastic events! Committees are forming! Look at the list of committees below, and see which one you would like to participate in! Come to the next MACA Board meeting to find out more. Board meetings are the second Sunday of each month at the Senior Center in Natick.

| Each month, Parker
Montgomery previews the next 2-3 months worth of notable New England
tournaments. If you are a chess organizer, you need to be in touch
with Parker!
Parker can walk you through the steps you need to take, to assure that you hold your tournament on a date that doesn't conflict with other nearby tournaments. |
