Notes to Coaches, Team Captains, Sponsors, and Players in Preparation for State Team Chess Championships

Updated February 27, 2003

From:  Tony Gavelis, MACA Scholastics Coordinator

1.  THERE WILL BE A COACHES' / TEAM CAPTAINS MEETING AT 9:30 AM  The location of the meeting will be in one of the Playing Rooms.   Please be sure that you have familiarized your team with the rules posted on the Internet (see them at www.masschess.org ... then select the "State Scholastic Team Championships" Link).

2.  Some Teams have told us "...we may change one (or more) of our players from what we've given you during registration."  That's ok, BUT YOU NEED TO SHOW UP DURING REGISTRATION (8-9AM), or let me know by email prior to Friday  evening.  Changing player names is part of the Registration (and pre-registration) process.  We cannot allow changes to the player rosters after registration closes, or else we will not be able to start on time.  MAKE SURE ALL OF YOUR PLAYERS' USCF & MACA MEMBERSHIPS ARE CURRENT!!!  All memberships must be reconciled and paid up prior to end of registration!!  If you anticipate a problem -  CONTACT us ASAP:  Anthony Gavelis (508) 259-1050 or agavelis@aol.com

3.  Registration Location:  NATICK  High School, 15 West St., Natick, MA .

4.  Playing Locations (see hot links below for maps):

5.  Food and Drink:  Not sure at this time how much  food will be available at the site.  Fast food, Deli's, Pizza, etc. near by.  School store will be selling drinks, pizza & snack items.  We are also trying to arrange for a catering truck to be on site throughout the day.

6.  Mr. Gus Gosselin plans to be on location with Chess Sets, Boards, Clocks, and Books for sale.

7.  If you want your Alternate to play in Round 1, please let us know that prior to the close of registration (9AM on Sunday).  This allows the Tournament Directors time to adjust the pairings from your team order that is now posted on the Internet.

8.  Also, we will try to offer "rated side games" to players that are not playing during a particular round.  The intent is to get Alternate players (and primary players not playing during a round because the Alternate is playing) rated games so that they are not just sitting around.  These games:
-- Will be run under Time Controls decided by the TDs for each round.  We will try to use the same time controls as the Team games ... but since priority of preparation goes to the Team games we may have to cut back the allotted time for the Rated Side Games.  Minimum time control will be G/30.
-- Are completely voluntary.  You sign up at the tournament site.
-- Will not count towards a team's total points ... no trophies for performance in these side games.
