Maca and all of its committees, including the Scholastics committee is run completely by non-paid volunteers who, because of their own jobs and lives, have only so many hours they can devote to organizations such as ours and in particular to the scholastic program.  Any time or assistance, especially on the day of an event, that you can give, will help make the event better and less stressful for those who carry the bulk of the burden of making the event successful.

There are many ways to contribute to make the events a better and more enjoyable experience.  Some require very little time and effort while others offer a way to help shape the direction of entire program.

Before we go into the general ways in which you can help, below is a list of how we stand for volunteers for our upcoming events.  Empty squares indicate we have no one committed to helping fill that role.  Even when a name appears, we can usually use additional people to cover specific times, provide relief or share the load.  If you volunteer, let us know the parameters of what you can help us with and we'll try and take advantage of whatever you can help us with.

Here are some of the ways you can get involved in helping Maca promote Scholastic chess.

Beome a USCF Certified Tournament Director (TD)

The USCF has different levels of Tournament Directors (TDs).  The minimum level of TD is that of "Club Level"  A Club Level TD is qualified to run small events.  The primary requirement is that you read and understand the rule book.  Once you have done so, you may obtain your Club level certification.

Much of the work is done via email but the committee usually meets ....

Computer operator

For those who have basic PC skills, with just a little bit of training from us, you could help us greatly during the registration process by entering players into out pairing software.

Registration Takers

At the start of every event, we inevitably have a large number of players who show up to register for the event that morning.  We need people to help with get us through this onrush of players.  Ideally, you can show up just prior to the stated start of registration and stay with us until the close of registration.  Even if you can only do part of the time, it will be of great help.
