  • Episode No. 217 will also report the relationship of Stephen A. Dann with
  • William "Bill" Goichberg, who died at age 83 on August 2, 2026.
  • The two tournament organizers were friends and communicated with each other
  • frequently by telephone on a weekly basis to share organizational ideas on how
  • to promote chess tournaments. They both had creative ideas on how to make
  • chess tournaments more appealing to rank-and-file players.
  • Stephen and Bill had known each other since the 1970s.
