Tournament Rules and Other Information
  • Don't fill in form several times - we definitely get it and we don't send confirmation that we received it. Wait patiently and in July you will receive a payment request. After you pay entry fee you are all set.
  • All previous 9 tournaments in 2022-24 were very successful and gathered about 100 participants each. The number of players is capped at 100, so please don't delay and register soon!
  • This tournament is for novices and beginners. You only need to know how pieces move. For those who already played in USCF tournaments - we accept players rated USCF under 250 only.
  • 4 sections by grade in 2024-25: K-1, 2-3, 4-5, 6-12. Everyone plays 4 games. If you lose the first game – do not leave! – you will play 3 more, and likely against easier opponents.
  • K-1 is done at noon; 2-3 and 4-5 are done around 12:30; 6-12 is done by 1pm.
  • There is no lunch break. You can take snacks or drinks between rounds. Parents are not allowed in playing rooms.
  • There is no touch move rule. After you made your move you have to release your hand from a piece. After you release your hand from a piece, the move is DONE, and you cannot take it back. Hint: think before you make a move!
  • Chess sets and clocks (if needed for long games) are provided. You don't need to be a member of USCF or MACA. You don't need to know chess notation and keep the score.
  • With questions email to dimabarash@gmail.com or call Dima at 617-256-5536

  • MACA provides tournament listing for all as a service to the chess community. For question, comments, or dispute regarding events that are not organized by MACA, please contact the tournament organizer directly.
  • Remember that each player is responsible for bringing and setting up their clock. Please refer to the Metrowest Chess Club Digital Clock Guide for instructions on how to set digital clocks.
  • MACA does not recommend but allows US Chess approved electronic scorekeeping devices. Please note that some national tournaments held by US Chess ban electronic scorekeeping, so be sure to know how to keep score without aid of electronics.
  • If online registration is enabled on this event, you can Join/Renew your USCF and MACA membership at the online registration page. If online registration is not available, you can join MACA (The Massachusetts Chess Association) at our Online Membership Form and USCF (United States Chess Federation) at USCF Membership Page.
