MACA Board Minutes
MACA Board Meeting, April 25, 2010
Papa Gino's, 291 Worcester Road, Natick, MA

The meeting was called to order at 3:10 PM.  In attendance: Maryanne Reilly, George Mirijanian, Robert Messenger, Steven Frymer, Kenneth Ballou, and Stephen Dann.

The minutes of the March 14, 2010, meeting as distributed by the acting clerk were corrected to reflect the correct location (Leominster) of the 79th Massachusetts Open.  (The acting clerk inadvertently distributed an earlier version of the minutes; the final version provided by the clerk already contained this correction.)

MOTION 0410-1, Reilly/Relyea, accept the minutes of the March 14, 2010, meeting as corrected.  PASSED 5-0 (abstaining: Frymer).

Alex Relyea and guest Nita Patel arrived at 3:12 PM.

Mr. Messenger presented the treasurer's report.  The general fund had a gain of $130.90 for the month of March.

Mr. Messenger presented the membership secretary's report, which is presented in the appendix to these minutes.

In the absence of the publications committee chair, Mr. Messenger informed the board that the April, 2010, issue of Chess Horizons had been mailed by Copley Business Services as of Friday, April 23.  It is currently unknown whether Max Sewell is willing and available to do layout for the July, 2010, issue.

MOTION 0410-2, Messenger/Mirijanian, MACA will provide a complimentary inside front cover advertisement for the 2010 New England Open.  PASSED 5-0 (abstaining: Frymer, Relyea).

Mr. Ballou presented the tournament committee report.

Mr. Relyea presented the election commission report.  A total of 107 ballots have been received to date.

President Reilly presented the scholastic committee report.  The scholastic season is over.  The need for police protection for the scholastic events at the Massachusetts Open is being determined.

Mr. Mirijanian presented the promotions report.  MACA has over 700 books for the upcoming auction.  Mr. Relyea generously offered space at the New England Open for a MACA auction.  MACA will therefore divide the books into two auctions, one at the Massachusetts Open and one at the New England Open.

MOTION 0410-3, Messenger/Reilly, mail postcards to all adult and life MACA members in New England advertising the auction at the Massachusetts Open.  PASSED 6-0 (abstaining: Frymer).

The next meeting is tentatively scheduled for Sunday, June 6, 3:00 PM at
