1. Memberships

The Board discussed extending memberships again, and eventually settled on another six months in order to extend all memberships for exactly one year.
MOTION: Extend memberships expiring after September 2020 by six months (RM/JC).
VOTE: Passed, 7-0

2. Massachusetts Delegates

MOTION: Appoint Ken Ballou and Robert Messenger as the MA Delegates for the US Open with Jeff Caruso as the alternate delegate (RM/OP).
VOTE: Passed, 8-0

3. Spiegel Cup Qualifiers

The absolute deadline for nominating state champions for the US Open events is July 19th. Oleg suggested using virtual evente again, as it is unlikely that we will be able to schedule and run the requisite over the board tournaments. The Board came up with the following plan:

  • ?  Four online qualifiers during the spring

  • ?  Three sections (instead of the usual four): High School, 14 & Under, 11 & Under

  • ?  Hold the Spiegel Cup Finals over the board with a limit of 8 players (in order to meet MA

    COVID restrictions)

  • ?  The 8 players will include 4 rating qualifiers and 4 tournament winners

  • ?  For qualification rating, the higher of OTB standard or online standard will be used

MOTION: Run the Spiegel Cup Qualifiers and Finals as described above (AH/OP). VOTE: Passed, 7-0-1
